It's time for the Great Gnome Run! This is a race organized by "Disgruntled Alliance" on the Frostwhisper realm and will most surely impress both the Alliance and the Horde. All participants will be Gnomes and all will be fully prepared and trained to run faster than the rest.

* Time: August 16th, 15:30 Realm time

* Place: In-Game

* Realm: Frostwhisper

* Organized by: Disgruntled Alliance

* Contact Info: Contact guild in-game or through the forums

* Link: More information

We would like to extent the invitation to you, to join this event.

We have prepared a special guild for the run, and we will be online several times per night, every night from now, and until the run starts, to be able to invite your newly created little Gnome (feel free to whisper us for info or invites).

If the run is smooth, it should take no longer than 30-45 minutes from start to end. However, if we get a visit from the nasty Gnome Ganking Horde, or you just get killed to many times en route, it might take a wee bit longer.

Blue poster says:

The time has come for the little people of Azeroth to display their bravery and endurance in a massive demonstration of strength and speed, which most surely will impress both the Alliance and the Horde!

The time has come for the Great Gnome Run, which is a race of epic proportions. All participants will be Gnomes and all will be fully prepared and trained to run faster than the rest. Some will use science to get an advantage, others will use pure strength and willpower to get ahead, and then there will probably be some who are naked and greased up in hopes to reduce wind resistance. Hair and moustaches will be trimmed for speed and tiny legs will move so fast that any image taken of them will show naught but the blurry motion of feet.

If you wish to participate in this Great Gnome Run, be it as a runner or as audience, then have a look here for more information.

As I posted a few days ago there was a pretty big community event yesterday, the Great Gnome Run. I've always been a fan of those events and for obvious reason I also decided to attend.
I made a Gnome warrior and named it Poplol, choice of a warrior was a bit tactical since I thought survival would play a bigger role then it did. As I came online about 40 mins too early (hoping I could have a few words with the people organizing it) I ended up slightly surprised in a complete swarm of half-naked gnomes (if I remember it correctly it was around 60-70 online). 20 mins later the area completely exploded and by the time the run started it was a stunning 218 participating gnomes online.

The rules were pretty basic, no enchants, pots, mounts or portals was allowed to be used and anyone that was cheating got disqualified (I think there was someone ahead of everyone using speedpots on cooldown combined with runspeed on boots etc. Boo!) In order to participate you also had to be a member of the special guild that was made, "Great Gnome Run".
Also the route was kept secret for everyone, you got directions to a pitstop where another peon was telling where to run next.

We started 15.30 in the Gnome Starting Area, Coldridge Valley in Southwestern Dun Morogh. From there the route was as following: Kharanos -> South Gate Outpost -> Into Loch Modan and up to North Gate Pass -> Ironforge and Deep Run Tram to Stormwind City -> Goldshire (this is where everyone thought there would be a hogger event) -> Westfall Bridge -> Sentinel Hill -> And as the final destination was The Lighthouse down south on the coast.
It took approximately 40 mins from start to end if I counted it somewhat right.

It was a short route, atleast it felt like it. Maybe it was because someone was killing all the mobs around, which eliminated corpseruns completely. Last time I did a event like this I think I spent more time on corpserunning then actually running while being alive.

When the run was finished I finally got some private time with Dabrin (or Crankwell which was his gnome name during the race) who were one of the main heads behind this event.

Why did you decide to arrange this event?
Well - To be honest, we have been talking about doing it for two years but then I had to go to China for work - and the chineese firewall were bad for WoW. I came back 5 months ago and we dusted of the old stuff and digged up the gnomerun. We wanted to do something besides instances - to show people the community can get together and have some fun!

There were roughly 200 participants, was that more or less then you expected?
To be honesty, when we started talking about this and I started posting on the other forums I was worried it would turn out with me and maybe 10 others. Then the thing started picking up when Vaneras posted on the official forum and YOU also posted on your website. So I actually blame you for the stress I have been through the past 4 hours.

Now when the race is over, is there anything you wish you had done different?
I think we were too worried about people getting killed along the route - so we went with a soft option and avoided all the horde areas.
Maybe next time we will make a hardcore run because there WILL be a next time. We can say that for sure already now!

I have to say this is an amazing thing to do in effort to make the whole community come together. I really do hope a more hardcore run next time, dying is a part of the race!
Haha, I will reserve you a spot with a extra potion of dying next time!

Also, I don't want to take credit for the entire run myself. All the guys in Disgruntled Alliance have been busting their heads off making sure this would be fun.

Last, but not to forget. Who stood as the rightful winner in the end?
Plainrunner, he was FAST.

Here is a short movie of the event, made by Nintendonerd, Stormscale EU.
